Volunteer Job Descriptions - Home Meets

Clerk Helper/Runner

  • Assist the computer people with verifying times and running scribe sheets to and from the pool. 
  • Monitor drinking water on pool deck, monitor bathrooms every 30 min and report issues with toilets to a board member, pick up trash off floors of bathrooms, empty trash cans around the pool deck and grounds when needed.
  • Shift 1: Event 1 through Event 39 Shift 2: Event 39 through end of meet

Computer Official

  • Perform time entry for swimmers into the computer for their respective events, and document any disqualifications related to technical stroke, turns and finishes.

  • MUST BE NWAL CERTIFIED! 

  • To become certified, the first step is to enroll in an NWAL league training class (Computers) at https://nwalcertified.com NWAL only offers classes in February, March and April, so check back frequently for availability.

  • Please reach out to your Clerk of Course (Kristen Skillicorn) if you are interested in being a computer official and have questions.

Concession Stand

  • 1st shift 6:00-9:00 (set-up and selling breakfast)
  • 2nd shift 9:00am-12:30pm (selling breakfast and lunch)
  • 3rd shift 12:30pm-end of meet (includes tear down)

Day before concessions set up

  • Arrive Friday night at 5:30 pm to cut fruit, package food, load coolers. 
  • Should take about 2 hours.

Day before Meet Set Up

  • Meets at 6pm on Friday night before home meets. 
  • You must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds. Arrive in clothes that you can get sweaty in.

Day Of Set-Up

  • 6am on Saturday mornings of home meets.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds at least 25 yards.

Grill Team

  • Start grilling at 9:30am. Cook all grilled items for the meet, clean grill and put away in clubhouse when done

Head Timer

  • Must have previous timer experience.
  • Keep back up stop watches for timers. 
  • Shift 1: Events 1-39 Shift 2: Event 39-80

Pool Deck Patrol

  • Monitor drinking water on pool deck, monitor bathrooms every 30 min and report issues with toilets to a board member, pick up trash off floors of bathrooms, empty trash cans around the pool deck and grounds when needed. You also need to go to the concession stand and get the speeding tickets that have been used and pass them back out to the scribes.
  • You must remain present on the pool deck during this job. 

Officials

  • Help ensure that competitions are safe, fair, and that all swimmers have a level playing field, while upholding rules relating to technical stroke, kick, turns and finishes.
  • MUST BE NWAL CERTIFIED! To become certified, the first step is to enroll in an NWAL league training class (Stroke and Turn) at https://nwalcertified.com NWAL only offers classes in February, March and April, so check back frequently for availability.

Parking Lot Attendant

  • Monitor entrance of parking lots and only allow cars with parking passes and/or handicap access in. One volunteer for each lot. 6am - 8am

Ready Bench

  • Assist in getting swimmers lined up and to the blocks 
  • Shift 1: Event 1-39 Shift 2: Event 40-80

Scribe

  • Write down times from each timer in your assigned lane.

Take Down

  • Beginning around event #70 and stay until tasks are complete (approximately 1 hour after final event).
  • Check in toward the end of the meet for specific instructions. 
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds at least 25 yards

Timers

  • Using our provided stop watches, you will time swimmers in an assigned lane.
  • Must attend timer meeting with the officials between 8:10 and 8:20 AM.
  • Shift 1: E1-40. Shift 2 E41-80

Trash Haul Away

  • You must have a truck!!
  • You will be responsible for walking the grounds after the meet and picking up any remaining trash. 
  • You need to gather all of the trash bags from cans, tie them up, and load it in your vehicle. 
  • Take the trash to a dumpster.

Verifier

  • Assist computer room by verifying swimmer times. 
  • This is an inside position (A/C) but children and families are not permitted to be with you.
