Hey, Stingrays!

The Windrose Community Swim Team Board and Coaches are very excited to kick off the 2023 season with all of you! If you have any friends looking to join, please let them know registration closes on April 16, 2023.

Please check the website to find answers to any of your questions and what drinks you will need to bring to the pool during the first weeks of practice. If you can’t find what you are looking for, reach out to any Board member via text, phone, or email! Please continue reading for some key updates for the season.

First Annual Stingray Scholar Award

We are starting our first annual senior scholarship, the Stingray Scholar Award! The Windrose Community Swim Team thrives on building community through the lifelong sport of swimming. Every graduating senior that has swum on the Stingrays team for a minimum of three consecutive years, and is in good standing in their senior season, will receive a scholarship. Get your high schoolers signed up now and guarantee a future Stingray Scholar Award! Don’t forget 15-18-year-olds swim free!

Coaching Lineup

We are pleased to welcome back Coach Stephen Schmidt in the role of head coach. Coach Steve teaches History and coaches the high school swim team at Fressati Catholic School. He has coached the Stingrays since 2019. Coach Calista Hughes will serve as the lead Assistant Coach and brings excellent experience from coaching the developmental levels at SSAN. Coach Danny, a Stingray veteran, will return as an assistant coach alongside Coach Devyn, also returning as an assistant coach. It is going to be a great year!

Open Board Positions and Bylaw Changes

We have several open board positions available at the end of this season and will vote on bylaw changes at our parent meeting on April 20th. Our bylaws have been in existence since 2010 and it is time for a few updates to keep up with the times. If you are looking for a way to serve the Windrose community and shape the Stingrays’ legacy, we invite you to consider a board position. Details to come!

Committees

We will have committees this year for parents to lead in several areas. If you are interested in serving on a committee, please reach out to Volunteer Coordinator, Kyle Valdez. We have these committees available: Banquet, Pep Rally, Set-Up Crew, Computer, and Medical.

Junior Rays

The Junior Rays are a great way for older kids to connect with younger, newer swimmers and for older swimmers to learn a few coaching skills. If you have an athlete 13&Up who would like to participate as a Junior Ray, please complete this form no later than this Thursday, April 6th!

Suits, Caps, and Shirts

Suits will be available for purchase in about two weeks at Swim Shops of the Southwest on Louetta Road. We will send another email out when they are ready. Your registration fee for each athlete includes a competition cap and team shirt. These will be delivered before our first dual meet.
